I designed this storyboard to address the positive effects switching to all electric vehicles will have on the sustainability and the environmental impact making the switch can have. I also decided to illustrate that alongside the pollution combustion engined cars are also not always reliable, although i understand neither combustion or electric cars can go without reliability issues it does drive a nice segway between the two. This achieves another one of the goals for the animation by making the two options seem more equal culturally. Rather than electric cars being a novelty they should be considered more as a strong competitor to be compared closely to combustion engine cars in order to find the best solution for the person not basing judgement on whether you should make the switch and more based off the benefits that make EV’s a legitimate competitor to today’s Combustion engined vehicles.
The general theme for this animation is to encourage people to consider EV’s when they buy their next car, illustrating the potential to help the environment and just to make people who get/have one feel good about their choice and the effect it has.
The first Slide illustrates the combustion vehicle, showing its polluting exhaust system, dead looking environment as it goes down the road. As we transition to the next slide the car comes to a halt breaking down and causing even more pollution in the process. The owner of the car illustrates his frustration before spotting a tunnel lit up with an “Electrify Sign”, he pushes his car down the road and through the tunnel, the camera shows a view of the entry and exit of the tunnel allowing for the transition from combustion vehicle being pushed to green electric vehicle out the other side. As the vehicle goes down the road it brings with it cleaner air, greener grass, almost illustrating the point that ‘grass is greener on the other side’ of the argument the video is making. This illustrates the dramatic effect people swapping to electric vehicles could make on the total emissions, and the environment as a whole. The transition conceptually shows how easy swapping to an EV should be as well as seamlessly converting the vehicle to electric while still keeping the viewers engaged in what’s going on in the animation.
Overall the narrative should emphasise making the transition to an electric vehicle without making it seem to out of reach while also highlighting the many benefits it brings to the world as a whole, it should call the viewers to think more carefully about their car choices and the impact it has on the environment in the long run while also making EV’s seem like an appealing option to the average customer.
