Relevant Animation History
In this post i will look at similar relevant animations in the same subject area to the one i have chosen seeing how they approach the subject in order to inform my own work approach to the animation task.
My First Impressions
When initially researching this project i started to realise animation videos on the topic tended to follow a particular theme. They all seem to follow a 2D image of a car with the wheels on it illustrating movement alongside the background changes with some animation in between to illustrate points, I found this trend to be incredibly common, so much so i struggled to find anything in any other styles. I learned a key detail from this fact, that when animating cars it is incredibly difficult to do anything new or different without ruining or taking away from the message of the video. I inferred this due to the fact of the sheer number of animation designs that look almost identical to one another from completely different creators. I believe this is potentially in part due to the fact that 2D car assets are easy to come by yet hard to create from scratch, leaving room for people using the same assets to create videos using them.
This animation in particular encapsulates the idea i want to go for, telling a story, and keeping the watcher interested with interesting things going on in the animation to keep people engaged, it also uses stick figures in order to not take away from the main message of the video, keeping the people low quality makes them less distracting for watchers.
How this will Inform My Animation
When it comes to my animation i think i will also follow this style of 2D animation following a car asset with one part moving along with the background in order to give a sense of motion to the vehicle, when it comes to the person I believe i am going to go for a more simplistic approach as i want the car and what it represents to be the main focus of the animation, therefore i will most likely opt for a stick figure for parts of the animation that may include or require human interaction during my animation.
How My Animation will Differ from the rest
When It comes to my animation i don’t want to completely rely on this simple 2D style when creating it, therefore in my animation i want the cars to move in unique ways in order to make movement more engaging and hopefully convey the feeling of movement more than you get just moving from left to right with the background. I will achieve this by creating different angles of the car asset allowing for them to be moved in unique ways in order to match the animation story/concept storyboard idea more closely than it would have with other methods.
